About

Tony’s hope is to give your people permission to authentically feel/speak/struggle and to honestly express their faith-filled affections.

He has been addressing audiences around the country and around the world for over twenty years. Today, this important work continues online (e.g. Off the Highway series), through media channels (like The Dove TV Network), and at university, church and conference venues.

As a fully credentialed Doctor of Ministry, Tony has taught at numerous universities and graduate schools around North America on topics of authentic faith, spiritual formation, cultural integration, cross-spiritual communication, and sacred friendship.

Equally prolific are his writings, including books like ALOOF, his award-winning column with Christianity Today’s Leadership Journal and the playful profundity found at tonykriz.com.

Tony is husband to Aimee, father to three courageous and creative boys, unofficial ambassador of his beloved Portland, Oregon, devoted to his neighborhood, honored by his communal household, and a friend to the religious and irreligious alike.

What Others Are Saying

“Honest, thought-provoking, straightforward and willing to tackle difficult subjects of faith and culture.  This is how I would describe Tony Kriz’s presentation. College students are facing many difficult questions. Many of them believe that they are trapped, wrestling with doubt, or have already given up.  Tony has a unique way of engaging students and helping them process life and faith.   He creates new categories of thought and presents an environment of discovery without giving simple “cookie-cutter” answers.  Having Tony on our campus was life-giving as well as challenging.  I still hear students continuing the conversations he started nearly a year ago.”

Robert S. Henry, Friends Pastor
Former Assistant Director of Campus Ministries, Huntington University

“Televangelists and preachers make out that God is ever present and easily accessible, but the stark reality is, at best, we perceive God fitfully, partially, and mysteriously. Tony Kriz, brutally honest and sincerely compassionate, invites us into the mystery of the God who appears aloof, but who beckons us through the fog of life.”

Michael Frost, Morling College, Sydney

“Every time Tony speaks for our students, they come alive.  Upon numerous venues for our campus and our region, God has used Tony’s experiences, words, and authenticity to compel the lives of others to walk more honestly, genuinely, and dangerously for Him.  Not only does he reveal attributes of God often misunderstood or even unseen through his ability to share story, but his fresh view of God’s Word brings Jesus to the front and center of his audiences’ hearts and minds.”

Kirk Brower, CRU Int’l

“In these days when chaos seems to drive the evening news cycle and broken relationships seem to be more the norm than not, when we stop for a minute—just stop—the soul’s reach for God breaks through. That longing to touch and be touched by God rises from the soul of every human. Even so, God often feels unreachable. Tony Kriz offers a new generation guidance on its journey to encounter God. Raw, honest, and wise, Kriz’s narrative reminded me to cherish those awe-inspiring moments when God came in close. Remember them. Soak them in. They are fuel for our journey—especially when God feels aloof.”

Lisa Sharon Harper, Senior Director of Mobilizing, Sojourners & sojo.net

“I have learned a great deal from him about how to present the good news of Jesus Christ in a truthful and meaningful way in the post-modern cultural context.  Tony is a very thoughtful and engaging teacher, and presents the relational truth of Jesus Christ in a compelling manner.”

Paul Louis Metzger, Ph.D., Multnomah Biblical Seminary
Director, The Institute for the Theology of Culture: New Wine, New Wineskins.
Author of Consuming Jesus: Beyond Race and Class Divisions in a Consumer Church

“The spiritually hungry are all over the place—especially in what is often called the “secular” Pacific Northwest. Many times these same people, spiritually hungry people, are suspicious of Christianity as a religion and the Christian Church as an institution.  No body I know has a better pulse on this than my friend and colleague Tony Kriz. He is incarnated in this reality. What he knows, he knows from both careful thinking and deep experience. I commend him as a dialog partner.”

Todd Hunter, Bishop: The Anglican Mission
Founder: Churches for the Sake of Others
Author: Giving Church Another Chance

“Tony Kriz communicates through narrative.  I have seen him quiet a room of 1000 people by telling his story.  His heart, passion and transparency are infectious.  His wisdom sneaks up on you and draws you in.   I look forward to much more from this remarkable speaker.”

Jeff Martin, Film MakerLord Save Us From Your Followers & Undivided

“Tony Kriz’s superior ability to present spiritual and cultural truths in an applicable, relevant way makes him a preferred speaker at our university. His teachings are sure to challenge and stir even the most reluctant audiences.”

Dr. Mary Carpenter, Professor at Howard Payne University
